Lots of good stuff this past month for my favorite Diva and I gotta say it must be the arrival of a writer (Ron Carlivati) who truly enjoys the character of Dorian Lord and the talent of Robin Victory in Europe Strasser. And too, just moments ago, I saw a commercial on SoapNet about Ms. Strasser and her giving up her "Passion" for her one true love, "One Life to Live." In fact that is pretty much what happened years ago when Ms. Strasser was called in California by OLTL Executive Producer Frank Valentini to return to OLTL, having been gone for three years.  During that break, Ms. Strasser had been starring as Hecuba on the NBC Daytime Drama, "Passions." Ms. Strasser has never made it a secret that she loves OLTL and the character of Dorian. What I find so amusing is that in playing Dorian, much like when she played Rachel Davis on "Another World," Robin has had the ability to draw out such hatred toward character from fans. Letters poured into the studio and there were numerous posts on the Internet begging for her return during her absence from OLTL.  During her absence, I think fans must have missed the lightening rod for such intense feelings. Ms. Strasser truly has a gift in playing the love to hate character. Dorian is a cataylst for action on the show and without her, OLTL is missing an edge, an excitement, a source of entertainment that keeps the show engaging.

I laugh because she is despised by some viewers who call Dorian everything from a "witch," to a "bitch," to a "whore." When I sometimes read posts on the Internet, I often see that she is attacked for her appearance and sometimes the attacks become so personal, I think there is an obvious transference of angry feelings from the character to the actress. The actress commented on her Hotline that at the 2006 OLTL Fan Club Party  some confused Dorian with her as the actress. It was around the time of the stalker reveal where then-writer Dena Higley scripted Dorian hiring someone to stalk her daughter. Anyway, some fans vented at the actress as if she were Dorian.

I have seen that most vividly when he has had Dorian interact with the Cramers, especially her niece, Blair. On the 9.26.07 episode, Blair confided in her aunt that she was about to marry a man Dorian hates, Todd. Just a few days previous to this, Blair was angry with her aunt for siding with Adriana, Dorian's daughter. Despite all that, Blair knows Dorian loves her so she told Dorian about her impending marriage even though she knew her aunt would likely disapprove. She did it because she loves and respects her. Dorian, in turn, struck a deal with Todd. She told him that she would keep her mouth shut about the reasons for the nuptials if he promised to put in writing that he wouldn't take her niece's children from her if the marriage turned sour. She did it out of love. That's what the Cramer women are all about. Kudos to a writer who gets it.

Dorian's villanous actions typically stem from love.
